LITSEA CUBEBA
Litsea cubeba has a bright citrus character with green nuances and a lemon-like sharpness. Rose-like and slightly metallic facets can give the fragrance more shape than a simple sweet fruit impression. It can provide a clear citrus accent in a floral or aromatic composition, with the greener side offering a useful counterpoint to softer notes.
Despite that citrus smell, Litsea cubeba belongs to the laurel family, not the botanical citrus group. Robertet documents an essential oil made by steam-distilling its fruits, with a citral-like character: the lemony impression associated with citral. This fruit oil is distinct from cold-pressed lemon peel oil or distilled lemongrass leaves. A listed Litsea cubeba note does not specify the supplier, origin or quantity of oil in a perfume, and its freshness does not prescribe a fixed place in the composition.
