LOTUS FLOWERS
Lotus flowers can suggest a light floral scent with a fresh, water-like quality, evoking petals beside a pond. In that style, the note can open up a bouquet and soften the transition between fruit and flowers. Yet lotus is not always transparent or delicate: the natural material and the perfumer’s interpretation can lead to quite different textures.
A documented pink lotus absolute, extracted from Nelumbo nucifera flowers, has a much richer profile: honeyed, earthy and creamy-floral, with green spicy nuances. A perfume-house interpretation, by contrast, describes a lighter, water-splashed floral effect beside fig and neroli. These examples show why the note should not be reduced to one recipe or a claim that every lotus fragrance contains flower extract. The complete composition determines whether the impression is airy and fresh or fuller and sweeter.
