MADONNA LILY

Madonna lily suggests a full white-flower scent with a smooth, sweet character. The living flower can have a powerful fragrance, so its pale petals should not be mistaken for a promise of a faint or restrained perfume. In a composition, a lily interpretation may feel richly floral or more open and fresh, depending on how the perfumer balances it with the surrounding notes.

The botanical reference is Lilium candidum, a true lily with fragrant white trumpet-shaped flowers. It is a more specific name than the broad note “lily”, and a different plant from lily of the valley. Perfumers can recreate its floral impression as an accord: several scented materials working together. The note identifies that olfactory portrait, not a guaranteed flower extract or a single standard recipe.
