METALLIC NOTES

Metallic notes describe a scent impression associated with metal: a cool edge, a bright glint or a sharper contrast within the fragrance. They need not smell like an industrial space. Rose materials can have a metallic facet too; BASF describes Rose Oxide 70 as both rosy and metallic, with a fresh character.

Perfumers can build the effect through different aromatic materials rather than a literal metal extract. It may sharpen a floral impression or stand against warm notes. Comme des Garçons explores a metal-inspired contrast alongside green galbanum, ginger, vanilla and myrrh. These are examples of construction, not compulsory companions or a shared formula. The surrounding composition determines whether metallic feels cool and floral, green, or contrasted with warmer resinous tones.
