MILK
Milk in perfume is a smooth, creamy scent impression that can suggest a cool glass of milk as well as a warmer dessert. It does not have to be sugary or heavy. Commodity, for example, describes a cold milk accord as a cooling contrast to warm marshmallow, woods and tonka bean, separating the milk effect from its sweet companions.
Perfumers can construct this impression with aromatic materials rather than literal dairy. Lactones are one group of useful materials, though each has its own character: Symrise describes Lactojasmone as adding creaminess to flowers and milky accents to sandalwood. This shows how milk-like softness can extend beyond gourmand perfumes. The note name does not specify one molecule or recipe; the rest of the composition determines its sweetness, texture and warmth.
