MONOÏ

Monoï evokes tiaré flowers with the smooth, softly sweet associations of coconut. The floral side recalls Tahitian gardenia, giving the note a white-flower character rather than just the smell of coconut flesh. Depending on the composition, it can feel more floral and airy or richer and creamier.

Monoï de Tahiti is made by macerating tiaré flowers in refined coconut oil: the flowers infuse the oil with their scent. This explains the connection between the flower and oil in the fragrance idea. A perfume’s monoï note may interpret that association as an accord; it does not automatically confirm the presence of the oil. Different scented monoï products also exist, so vanilla, jasmine or other additions should not be treated as essential features of every monoï note.
