NIRVANOLIDE (MUSK)

Nirvanolide is a synthetic musk from Givaudan with a pronounced musky character, powdery softness and fruity nuances. A lactonic facet gives a creamy impression in the smell. Together, these qualities suggest a rounded, softly textured musk rather than only the sharp freshness associated with freshly washed fabric.

It belongs to the macrocyclic musk family, meaning that its molecule contains a large ring. That chemical category does not make all musks smell alike: Nirvanolide has its own balance of powder and fruit. A perfumer can use those facets to shape the texture of a composition, while the other materials determine the final effect.
