ORANGE (TAROCCO)

Tarocco is a blood-orange variety, not a place of origin. In perfume it suggests sweet citrus with a lively peel character and rounded fruitiness. PCW describes its Tarocco oil as sweet and citrusy with a slight floral facet. This is still an orange note, rather than a berry accord, even though blood-orange descriptions sometimes use berry comparisons.

Aromatic oil is obtained from the peel; decolourised Tarocco oils are also available for perfumery. The fruit’s red flesh therefore does not mean that its oil, or a finished perfume, must be red. Tarocco can contribute a fresh fruit accent beside flowers, spices or woods. The cultivar name gives more detail than “orange”, but it does not establish the exact oil preparation, formula or country of cultivation in every listed fragrance.
