ORCHID
Orchid in perfume describes a floral inspiration with room for very different interpretations. It may feel airy and white-floral, or richer and darker when built into a fuller accord. Orchids do not share one uniform scent: even within the Oncidium group, fragrant flowers can have markedly different characters. The Sharry Baby hybrid, for example, is associated with chocolate, vanilla and raspberry impressions.
Perfumery also uses composed orchid accords. Tom Ford distinguishes a dark Black Orchid accord from a white-floral Ghost Orchid accord informed by headspace technology, which captures information about the scent around a flower. These are specific interpretations, not definitions of every orchid note. Look to the surrounding notes to understand whether a fragrance leans towards floral freshness or warmer sweetness. The label alone does not identify a particular species, extract or formula.
