OUD ASSAFI™/OUD ASSAM

Oud Assafi™ has a pronounced woody character with leathery, animalic facets and an underlying sweetness. Animalic here describes a warm, hide-like impression; this is a botanical oud material, not an animal ingredient. Its darker texture can give a perfume a more forceful wood character, even when other notes soften the overall composition.

The material comes from Aquilaria malaccensis and is associated with the collaboration between Jalali Agarwood in Bangladesh and Firmenich. Mizensir identifies Sylhet, near the border with Assam, as its source region. Oud Assam is also used as a supplier synonym for this material, but it should not be read as a claim that all oud from Assam is Oud Assafi™. In a fragrance, flowers can contrast with its leathery side and sweeter notes can round its edges. The finished formula determines its prominence and persistence.
