MITCHAM PEPPERMINT

Mitcham peppermint has the crisp, mentholated character of peppermint, with a bittersweet aromatic edge. The qualifier identifies a cultivated peppermint type: the RHS lists Mitcham as a synonym of Mentha × piperita ‘Black Mitcham’. It should not be taken to mean that the ingredient was necessarily grown in Mitcham, England. Fairoils, for example, documents Black Mitcham peppermint cultivated in the Kenyan highlands and distilled there.

The supplier makes its oil by steam-distilling the leaves and describes a fresh, crisp, bittersweet aroma, with menthol central to the mint character. This gives a useful material reference without making every Mitcham oil identical or superior to other peppermint. In a perfume, its clear herbal freshness can contrast with warmer notes or strengthen an aromatic mint impression. The surrounding ingredients determine whether that freshness feels leafy, sweet or more sharply mentholated.
