PIMENTO BERRY
Pimento berry is allspice, the fruit of Pimenta dioica. Its aroma brings several familiar spices together: clove, cinnamon, nutmeg and a peppery edge. In perfume, this can feel warm and rounded while retaining a lively spicy bite. Balsamic facets add a softer, resin-like impression, so the note can connect a fresh opening with sweeter gourmand or woody elements rather than simply making a fragrance smell like a spice cupboard.
Natural pimento berry oil can be obtained by steam distilling dried, crushed fruit. Givaudan’s Jamaican material uses berries gathered while green, then dried before distillation. Berry oil and pimento leaf oil come from different parts of the same tree; the leaf’s clove-like character does not make them interchangeable. A listed pimento berry note describes the fragrance’s intended impression, without confirming a particular oil or origin.
