PIMENTO LEAVES

Pimento leaves bring the aromatic spice of the allspice tree, Pimenta dioica. When crushed, the leaves release a clove-like scent: the useful reference here is a warm spice rather than the watery freshness that the word leaf might suggest. In a fragrance, this character can make a leafy theme feel more pungent and spicy. It need not produce a sugary or dessert-like effect.

Pimento leaf oil is a natural material obtained by steam distillation of foliage; commercial production may also include small twigs. It comes from the same tree as allspice berries, but the plant part and resulting material are different. The leaf note should therefore be considered separately from pimento berry. Its prominence depends on the composition, and its appearance in a note list does not establish which extract or formula was used.
