Plantain here refers to the cooking-banana fruit, offering a tropical fragrance idea rather than the unrelated herb also called plantain. Kew describes the fruit as starchier than dessert bananas and usually cooked before eating. That food identity helps explain the name, but it does not mean a perfume must smell of frying, caramel or cooked starch.
