ROSE
Rose in perfume can suggest fresh petals or a fuller flower with honeyed, fruity and gently spicy nuances. These are different possibilities within a broad floral theme, rather than a single smell shared by every rose fragrance. A rose absolute, for example, can feel warm and rich while retaining the delicate impression of petals.
Natural rose materials include flower extracts such as Rosa damascena absolute, obtained using solvents. A listed rose note can also describe a composed accord and does not establish which extract, if any, a perfume contains. Look beyond the flower name when choosing a fragrance: descriptions of freshness, honey or spice help reveal the interpretation. The surrounding composition determines whether rose feels light and open or sweeter and more enveloping.
