ROSE (GRASSE; ROSE DE MAI)
Grasse Rose de Mai suggests a full rose bloom with honeyed sweetness and a lightly peppery edge. Its floral richness can also carry green and fruity nuances, giving the rose more detail than sweetness alone. In perfume, those facets may be emphasized or softened by the rest of the composition.
Rose de Mai is a name for Rosa centifolia, associated with its May flowering. In the Grasse region, growers harvest the flowers for perfumery, including production of rose absolute. The Grasse qualifier matters: Rose de Mai is also produced elsewhere, so the names do not establish the same origin on their own. A listed note is still a scent description rather than proof of a particular extract. Look for whether a fragrance highlights the flower’s honeyed fullness or its fresher, greener side.
