ROSE OXIDE

Rose oxide is an aroma material with a fresh rose character, green edges and, in some grades, a distinctly metallic impression. Here metallic describes a cool, bright sensory effect. It can give a rose accord definition and introduce a geranium-like facet, rather than supply the whole rounded scent of a rose on its own.

Suppliers offer different grades, so the general name does not identify one exact specification. Symrise describes its Rose Oxide D through floral, rose and green notes, while BASF emphasizes the rosy, metallic freshness of Rose Oxide 70. The compound also occurs in nature; it is not the same thing as rose essential oil or absolute. In a finished perfume, its prominence depends on the amount used and the other materials, with no fixed position or guaranteed wear time.
