RUM
Rum in perfume suggests the aromatic warmth of the spirit, with an alcoholic edge that can meet fruit, wood and sweetness. It need not smell simply sugary. A composition may emphasize dry woods and spice, or take a richer direction with caramel and coffee around the rum impression.
Perfume houses demonstrate both approaches: a brown-rum theme can sit beside cedar and patchouli, while a rum accord can bring contrast to coffee and creamy sandalwood. These are compositional choices, not ingredients present in every rum note. Perfumery also has rum-derived extracts, so the note should not automatically be described as wholly synthetic. The name alone does not disclose which material was used. Explore whether you prefer its woody-spicy side or a sweeter gourmand setting.
