INDIAN SANDALWOOD

Indian sandalwood is associated with a smooth, milky woody scent: warm and gently sweet, with a texture that may feel almost buttery. Individual oils can reveal soft spice, powdery or musky nuances beneath that creamy wood. In a perfume, these qualities can round out flowers or link warm spices to a softer woody background.

The natural material is associated with Santalum album, and producers in India obtain essential oil by steam distilling its aromatic heartwood. Indian origin is broader than Mysore: sandalwood oil is also produced elsewhere within Karnataka. Species and origin are separate details, since Santalum album is grown outside India too. A note listing cannot confirm the oil used in a finished fragrance. Look for how the creamy character balances drier wood, sweetness and the other notes.
