SICHUAN PEPPER CO₂
Sichuan pepper CO₂ names an extracted material with a fresh peppery character and a bright citrus side. Depending on the extract, the scent may lean towards juicy bergamot and flowers or green petitgrain-like citrus with a metallic edge. It can bring a lively contrast to smooth woods or reinforce the freshness of a citrus perfume without necessarily suggesting heavy, hot spice.
The CO₂ label refers to carbon dioxide extraction, rather than a separate kind of pepper plant. Supplier specifications matter: IFF identifies its material as Zanthoxylum piperitum and documents a further purification with ethyl alcohol; dsm-firmenich identifies Zanthoxylum schinifolium and extraction from dried fruits. These examples do not establish a single recipe for every extract. Neither the label nor the extraction method guarantees greater strength, longevity or quality in a finished perfume.
