SOAP ACCORD

A soap accord recalls the scent of a bar of soap, fresh lather or skin after washing. It can feel crisp and waxy with citrus brightness, or softer and creamier when flowers and musks shape the impression. The clean association is sensory: it describes a smell, not the cleansing action of the perfume. A soapy note can brighten a floral composition without turning it into a sharp, watery fragrance.

Perfumers create this effect with combinations of scent materials. Some aldehydes can contribute a waxy, soapy quality; Fraterworks documents that character for undecanal. Maison Margiela describes its soap-bubble accord through citrus, aldehydic and green rosy notes, surrounded by flowers, coconut milk and white musks.
