STRAWBERRY LEAVES

Strawberry leaves point towards the green side of the plant rather than the sugary scent of ripe berries. The impression can be herbal and tea-like, with earthy or sharply leafy nuances. Used beside fruit, it can suggest the surrounding foliage; within a floral composition, it can introduce a greener contrast. It need not smell recognisably of strawberry jam.

Natural strawberry-leaf absolute does exist. Hermitage describes its tea-like qualities and has documented a solvent-extracted leaf material with a predominantly green character and little resemblance to the fruit. This makes it different from both strawberry fruit accords and an essential oil assumed from the note name. Perfume houses also use strawberry leaves as a descriptive note, so a listing alone cannot establish whether an absolute or another interpretation is present. The exact materials, prominence and development depend on the perfume.
