SYMTRAP®
SymTrap® identifies a process developed by Symrise, so it has no single smell of its own to describe as fruity, floral or green. The scent depends on the source material and the aromatic molecules recovered from it. For a fragrance shopper, the useful clue is the ingredient named alongside SymTrap, rather than the technology name alone.
The process captures aroma molecules from water-based streams left by other production steps and concentrates them into useful aromatic materials. Symrise describes, for example, recovering a distinctive clove material from water remaining after clove-oil distillation, as well as applications involving fruits and vegetables. This makes use of aromatic components that might otherwise be lost. It does not establish one standard perfume recipe, a fixed position in the scent’s development or the environmental footprint of an entire finished fragrance.
