TIARE FLOWERS

Tiare flowers suggest a sweet white floral scent that can feel soft, rounded and creamy in perfume. The flower is the Tahitian gardenia, Gardenia taitensis. Its association with tropical floral perfumes does not mean every interpretation is heavy or coconut-dominated: brighter citrus and green accents can give the floral effect more air.

Tiare is closely linked with monoi. Monoï de Tahiti is made by macerating the flowers in refined coconut oil, so the flower and the oil are distinct parts of that material. A tiare note in a perfume does not by itself prove that monoi or coconut oil is present. Perfumers can place it in different settings: Bon Parfumeur’s 103 combines tiare with other flowers and a milky vanilla-musky impression, while Chantecaille pairs the note with mate and bergamot. These are examples of compositions, not a fixed recipe for the flower.
