TONKA BEAN
Tonka bean combines a sweet, powdery impression with almond-like warmth and the dry scent of hay. It can suggest vanilla or caramel, yet its herbal and softly tobacco-like facets give it more than a dessert character. These contrasts help explain why tonka may feel creamy in one perfume and drier or more aromatic in another.
The bean is the seed of Dipteryx odorata, and a natural absolute is obtained through solvent extraction. Coumarin occurs naturally in tonka, but the whole extract is not the same material as isolated coumarin. Alongside flowers or woods, its sweetness can round the composition; in a gourmand setting, the almond and vanilla associations may come forward. The listed note does not establish which extract or other aroma materials are present, and its prominence and lasting power depend on the finished formula.
