TURMERIC LEAVES

Turmeric leaves offer an aromatic side of the plant, with herbal freshness and spice rather than only the familiar impression of the culinary rhizome. Their essential oil can have a bright citrus-like accent: LMR describes its Indian leaf oil as recalling elemi, a fresh, resinous scent reference. Other leaf oils can lean greener, earthier or slightly woody.

This material comes from the foliage of Curcuma longa. LMR produces an essential oil by hydrodistillation, while other suppliers describe steam distillation of the leaves. It is a different plant part from the underground rhizome and deserves its own note identity. In perfume, the leaf’s aromatic freshness can give movement to a spicy composition. Neither the word leaf nor the country of one supplier guarantees a mild fragrance, a specific origin or the same profile in every blend.
