ULTRAVANIL™

Ultravanil™ is a Givaudan aroma material with a powerful vanilla character and a marked phenolic edge when smelled undiluted. That sharper side makes it more than a simple impression of sugary vanilla. In a composition it can strengthen other vanillic materials, helping build the richness of a vanilla accord rather than necessarily acting as its only source.

Givaudan identifies Ultravanil as 2-ethoxy-4-methylphenol and offers it in an 80% solution in dipropylene glycol. It is a defined aroma chemical, distinct from vanilla pod extract and from vanillin. The supplier describes its compatibility with vanillin and ethyl vanillin and a lower tendency to discolour than other vanillic notes. These are formulation properties, not promises about a finished perfume’s colour or wear. The surrounding accord determines how sweet, sharp or rounded the vanilla impression becomes.
