VIOLET
Violet brings a sweet, powdery floral impression to perfume, often recalling the soft scent of face powder. Its sweetness can feel delicate rather than sugary, and some interpretations reveal woody or fruity shades beneath the flowers. This makes violet useful for recognising a perfume with a softly blurred floral texture, although the surrounding notes determine how prominent that effect becomes.
Perfumers commonly build the floral impression with ionones, a family of fragrance materials associated with violet character. Different materials and combinations allow the flower to appear more powdery, woody or fruit-tinged. Violet should not be confused with violet leaf: the leaf absolute has a much greener, watery profile. A violet note therefore describes a floral effect, not proof that violet flowers or leaves were extracted and added to the bottle.
