WATER & SALT

Water and salt in perfume evokes the air around breaking waves: a fresh, briny impression with a mineral edge. It can feel open and windswept, or closer to the trace of seawater on skin. The watery side suggests space and movement, while the salty side gives the freshness a drier, coastal texture. This need not be a sweet or fruity aquatic effect.

The note describes a marine impression rather than the smell of a fixed water-and-salt mixture. Profumum Roma’s Acqua di Sale combines a briny accord with seaweed, myrtle and cedarwood; Jo Malone also describes a salty mineral character alongside woody earthiness in Wood Sage & Sea Salt. These are different ways of building a coastal scene. The label alone does not reveal a formula, actual seawater content or a guaranteed calming effect.
