WHITE MUSK
White musk describes a clean-smelling direction within the broad musk family. It may suggest soft powder, freshly laundered fabric or a smooth, skin-like warmth, sometimes with a lightly sweet or floral edge. White is a sensory description, not the name of one molecule. The impression can be airy and understated, but it can also form a noticeable part of a fuller fragrance.
Perfumers work with different manufactured musk materials, singly or in combinations, to create these effects. Their odours and behaviour are not identical, so white musk should not be treated as another name for Galaxolide or any other specific material. Alongside flowers it can contribute softness; beside woods it may give a rounded, continuous background. A clean-smelling accord does not establish environmental or ethical credentials, and its gentle texture does not guarantee a particular level of projection or longevity.
