YLANG YLANG (COMOROS)
Comoros identifies the origin of this ylang ylang note; the islands include established flower-distilling operations such as those on Anjouan. The floral character of Cananga odorata can be warm and rounded, with creamy, fruity or spicy facets. The place name does not make it a separate flower species or prove that every oil from there has one identical smell.
The essential oil comes from distilled flowers. Different stages of distillation yield different fractions, while a complete oil brings fractions together; grade and processing matter alongside origin. In perfume, this floral note can fill out a bouquet or soften a woody or warm accord. It is more useful to consider that balance than to assume one island always produces a stronger or finer scent. A perfume note is not itself a certificate of ingredient provenance or a guarantee of lasting power.
