BLOOD ORANGE
Blood orange brings a sweet citrus scent with the fresh, lively edge of orange peel. The impression is fruity and bright, with a lightness that can keep the sweetness from feeling syrupy. In perfume, it can give a citrus composition a rounded orange character or bring a juicy contrast to flowers and drier woody notes. The surrounding fragrance determines whether that sweetness feels crisp, soft or more gourmand.
Blood oranges belong to the sweet-orange group, Citrus sinensis. A documented fragrance material is oil cold-pressed from their peel, including Italian material supplied for perfumery. The name refers to the fruit variety; it does not establish that every perfume uses the same oil or that the note must smell of berries. A fragrance listing describes the intended scent, rather than disclosing its full formula.
