ASH TREE
Ash Tree is a clean, dry woody note in perfumery inspired by the light-colored, resilient wood of ash trees (Fraxinus species). Its scent is typically interpreted as smooth, airy, and slightly green, with nuances of fresh-cut timber, pale bark, and soft mineral dryness. Compared to heavier woods like oud or patchouli, Ash Tree feels lighter and more transparent, evoking the impression of freshly split wood, cool forest air, and sunlit branches. Used mainly as a heart or base note, it adds structure, clarity, and subtle natural elegance to woody, aromatic, and modern minimalist compositions.
History & Production: Ash trees are widespread across Europe, Asia, and North America and have long been valued for their strong, flexible hardwood, traditionally used for tool handles, furniture, and even musical instruments. Because ash wood itself yields little aromatic oil suitable for perfumery, the Ash Tree note is usually recreated as an olfactory accord using dry woody molecules, green facets, and light resinous nuances to suggest the scent of fresh timber. In fragrance design, Ash Tree blends well with cedarwood, juniper, moss, and musks, creating a clean, understated woody foundation—the scent of pale wood warmed by sunlight and open forest air.
