CAJA (HOG PLUM)

Cajà (Hog Plum) is a vibrant tropical fruity note in perfumery inspired by the golden fruit of Spondias mombin, widely known in Brazil as cajá or taperebá. Its scent is bright, juicy, and sharply refreshing, blending sweet tropical pulp with tangy citrus-like acidity. The aroma often suggests a mix of mango, pineapple, and green apple, accented by a slightly herbal or resinous nuance that gives it depth and character. Lively and mouthwatering, Cajà is typically used as a top or heart note, bringing an exotic sparkle and sunny freshness to fruity, floral, and gourmand compositions.

History & Production: The cajá fruit grows on the tropical tree Spondias mombin, native to the Americas and widely cultivated throughout tropical regions for its juicy, aromatic yellow fruit. The fruit has a distinctive sweet-and-sour flavor and fragrant pulp, often used in juices, jams, and desserts across Brazil and the Caribbean. Because the fruit itself does not yield a stable essential oil for perfumery, the Cajà note is usually reconstructed as an accord, using fruity esters and citrusy molecules that recreate its vibrant, acidic brightness. In fragrance compositions it pairs beautifully with mango, passion fruit, vanilla, white florals, or musks, delivering a sun-drenched tropical radiance—the scent of golden fruit bursting with freshness under equatorial light.
