SEA NOTES

Sea Notes are fresh, expansive accords in perfumery that evoke the scent of the ocean and coastal air—clean, saline, and infused with movement. They combine impressions of sea spray, mineral salt, cool wind, and watery transparency, creating a sensation that is both invigorating and serene. Unlike purely aquatic notes, Sea Notes often carry a subtle briny, ozonic, or sun-warmed driftwood facet, giving them a more natural, landscape-driven character. Used mainly as top or heart notes, they bring openness, clarity, and a feeling of infinite space to fresh, aromatic, and modern compositions.

History & Production: Sea Notes emerged prominently in late 20th-century perfumery with the development of ozonic and marine molecules that allowed perfumers to translate the sensation of the sea into scent. Built from materials such as Calone, Cascalone®, Floralozone, saline accords, and mineral notes, they do not replicate seawater itself—which has no true smell—but rather the air, light, and minerals surrounding it. Over time, perfumers refined these accords to be less metallic and more naturalistic, often blending them with citrus, seaweed, woods, or musks. In contemporary perfumery, Sea Notes symbolize freedom, freshness, and elemental purity—the scent of horizon lines, breaking waves, and salt on skin.
