VINE WOOD

Vine Wood is a dry, textured woody note in perfumery inspired by the twisted trunks and sun-aged branches of grapevines. Its scent is woody, fibrous, and subtly smoky, with nuances of dry bark, earth, and faint toasted warmth, evoking old vineyards, pruning fires, and warm soil beneath rows of vines. Less polished than cedar and less creamy than sandalwood, Vine Wood carries a rustic, mineral quality that feels natural and quietly sophisticated. Used primarily as a base or heart note, it brings structure, dryness, and terroir-driven character to woody, chypre, and ambery compositions.

History & Production: Grapevine wood has long been associated with agriculture and ritual, traditionally burned after harvest, releasing its distinctive dry-smoky aroma. As vine wood yields no essential oil suitable for perfumery, the Vine Wood accord is an olfactory reconstruction created from dry woody molecules, smoky facets, and earthy notes, often incorporating hints of guaiac wood, vetiver, oak nuances, or mineral accords. This note reflects modern perfumery’s interest in place, materiality, and texture, translating the character of vineyards into scent. When paired with wine-like fruits, leather, herbs, or moss, Vine Wood conveys a sense of heritage and landscape—the scent of sun, soil, and time etched into wood.
